We love a fun-filled family day out here at Dotty and as the weather picks up, we wanted to pull together our favourite Bank Holiday Monday events this May 2024.

With lots of outdoor fun this May, here are our favourite Bank Holiday Monday events. Wearing Dottys is of course optional but highly recommended!

May Day Celebrations at Kent Life

This Early May Bank Holiday, Kent Life will take you back in time for the traditional May Bank Holiday celebrations with their May Day Celebrations event!

The whole family can get involved in traditional celebrations including dancing around the maypole and enjoy traditional Steam Organ entertainment. There will also be animal encounters including the chance to meet their farmyard friends, animal feeding sessions, and owl flying demonstrations.

On rainy days, you can explore the indoor play areas and ‘Paint a Pot’ in their artist’s studio. Enjoy homemade cakes at Dotty’s Tea Room, or share a pizza from their wood-fired oven. There is also a Vintage Village to explore.

This will surely be a fun day out whatever the weather! One of our favourite Bank Holiday Monday events, this takes place over the weekend from 4th-6th May at Kent Life Heritage Farm Park.

Family Fun Day at Royal Windsor Racecourse

Another of the best Bank Holiday Monday events this May has to be the Family Fun Day at Royal Windsor Racecourse

On Monday 6th May, join the fun at Royal Windsor Racecourse with a funfair, circus acts, face painting, and a visit from the Berkshire Birds of Prey for all your avid birdwatchers!

The best part about this Bank Holiday Monday event is that kids under 17 years go free! There also promises to be lots of yummy food and ice cream.

On top of all this, there are also fun races to watch of course! With 8 races to watch starting from 2pm.

BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair at Beaulieu

For something much more chilled out, why not head to Beaulieu in the New Forest for the BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair from 3rd - 5th May.

Located at the National Motor Museum in the beautiful grounds of Beaulieu, the show promises to be a haven for all plant lovers. Featuring Beautiful Borders and the Hillier Experience, this will be one of our most relaxed Bank Holiday Monday events.

For those family members who don’t have green fingers, BBC Good Food will also be on hand, offering a mix of artisan food and drink producers to satisfy hungry little bellies! There is also bandstand entertainment for those with lots of energy.

Your ticket also includes access to the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Little Beaulieu, The World of Top Gear, and the Beaulieu Abbey so lots to explore for all the family!

When you are done perusing plants, there are lots of great coffee shops and cafes in the tranquil village of Beaulieu itself. We love The Beaulieu Bakehouse and Pallets Coffee House for great breakfasts, brunch, homemade cake, and coffee of course!

For even more lunch options, and a pretty garden setting, head to Fairweather’s Garden Centre. They have lots of seating both inside and outdoors so a great place to go if the weather turns!

Play Unstoppable Festival - Legoland Discovery Centre

One of our favourite indoor Bank Holiday Monday events this May is the Play Unstoppable Festival at Legoland Discovery Centre in Birmingham.

With lots of fun indoor activities, this Bank Holiday event promises to be a fun day out whatever the weather!

Little ones can take part in the Play Unstoppable Dance Party, design a spirit animal, add their creation to the Lego Flower Cart, and learn to build their initials in the Lego Minifigures Land.

For avid movie watchers, you also have the chance to see the premier of the brand new Lego Friends 4D film. 

This event runs from 16th March until 6th May 2024 and is included in the price of your admission ticket.

Dino Takeover at Wellington Country Park

Dinosaurs have taken over at Wellington Country Park in Berkshire this May Bank Holiday!

From Monday 27th to Friday 31st May, join the team at Wellington Country Park for an adventure taking you back to when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

Meet Emily the Gentle Brontosaurus, watch the Predator Show, learn about the Dilophosaurus, and take part in a meet and greet with Grumpy Triceratops. Not forgetting the T-Rex Show, this promises to be a fun day out for all the family! 

Your general admission ticket will include the Dino Takeover event at Wellington Country Park so you will have access to all the family fun at the park itself.

Recommended for under 8-year-olds, there is plenty to keep your little ones entertained all day! Visit the Animal Farm for a chance to get to know their furry friends and opportunities to feed them too.

For active explorers, there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep them entertained from the Enchanted Forest, Adventure Playground, and Pirate Ship to explore. For little guests, there is a soft indoor play area, Jumping Pillow, and outdoor Toddler Play Area specially designed for younger visitors.

The park also has Mini Golf, an Adventure Play Trail, and driving experience ‘Welly Wheels’ for older children (up to 10 years old).

There are also a range of cafes to choose from serving hot and cold food for hungry little bellies! This is one of our favourite Bank Holiday Monday events this May.

Whitley Bay Carnival

For those who love the fun and excitement of a carnival, we have found quite a few carnival Bank Holiday Monday events for the whole family to enjoy!

Whitley Bay Carnival hopes to return on Sat 25th and Sun 26th May 2024. Awaiting funding support, the Whitely Bay Carnival hopes to return for a fun-filled weekend for all the family.

Bringing the community together with a bright and colourful parade and lots of support from local businesses, this will be a fun event full of music, colour, and entertainment.

You can help make this happen by supporting with a donation. All proceeds are greatly appreciated and fingers crossed this will go ahead as planned!

Blenheim Palace Food Festival - Oxfordshire

For all you food lovers out there, we have the perfect Bank Holiday Monday event for you! The Food Festival returns to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire this Saturday 25th May - Monday 27th May 2024. 

Held in the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace, the Food Festival will return for its 10th year with an array of food stalls from local producers including homemade treats, fresh bakery goods, and delights from around the world. You can also try fun cocktails and mocktails as well as craft beer, and artisan coffee, this weekend will surely be a feast for the senses!

The Food Festival also includes live music and live Q&As with top chefs and food industry experts so a great place to discover more about healthy eating and have the chance to try new delicacies.

We think this will be one of the best Bank Holiday Monday events this May especially if the weather is sunny!

Chatsworth Family Festival

Chatsworth House and Garden in Derbyshire are putting on their very first Chatsworth Family Festival this May Bank Holiday (25th May - 27th May 2024).

With so many fun things to do for all the family including a drawing workshop with Lydia Monks (illustrator and collaborator with Julia Donaldson), this promises to be a fun Bank Holiday weekend.

The festival celebrates all things childhood and so is fit for all the family to reminisce on childhood games. Activities include learning circus tricks, making a kite to fly around the grounds, running for Gold in Olympic-style races, and discovering how to illustrate your own story with Lydia Monks and Bethan Woolvin.

This may be one of our favourite Bank Holiday Monday events this May as it is suitable for all ages so you can join in too!

The event is included in your ticket to the House and Garden at Chatsworth, simply head to the booking marquee upon arrival to reserve your place for each activity.
